BEIRUT:  Lebanese official media reported Friday that separate Israeli attacks killed three journalists in eastern Lebanon and flattened compounds in southern suburbs of Beirut.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that three journalists have been killed in an Israeli strike on Hasbaya. It added that Israeli military planes struck at 3:30 am near the Syrian border. Local media reported that the air attack hit a hotel in Hasbaya, around 50 km south of Beirut.

Meanwhile, in Beirut’s southern region, Israel strikes destroyed two compounds and ignited a large fire, and black smoke covered the region, the NNA stated. The strike that targeted the Saint Therese region also caused the collapse of two compounds near the Constitutional Council.

Israel had started an intense air campaign in Lebanon on September 23, while later announced ground offensive, following a year of limited cross-border clashes with Hezbollah over the war in the Gaza Strip.

AFP reported that since then, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed about 1,580 people.  According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, around 128 journalists killed in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon since October 7.
