Israeli Strikes on Gaza Destroyed 59 Mosques: Interior Ministry

GAZA: Gaza’s Interior Ministry has revealed that Israeli airstrikes have destroyed 59 and partially damaged 136 mosques so far in the besieged Gaza strip since October 7.

Ministry in a statement said that Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday destroyed two mosques in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. It said the strikes completely destroyed Khalid bin al-Walid and Al-Ikhlas mosques in Khan Yunis.

Ikrami al-Mudallal, spokesman for the Ministry of Endowments in the Gaza Strip, said that Israel also targeted a third mosque in Gaza, Al-Sahwa Mosque.

He added the total number of mosques completely destroyed has risen to 59, in addition to damage to 136 mosques and three churches, since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza on Oct. 7.

Israel targeting civilian facilities

Israel has been targeting civilian facilities such as houses of worship which is a violation of the rules of war. Israel claims that Hamas fighters hide in and around these sites.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s bombardment has killed over 10,500 people, most of them women and children. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is about 1,600, according to official figures.

At least 2,500 others, more than half of them minors, have been reported missing and are most likely trapped under the rubble.
