TEL AVIV, Israel: Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, has called for Turkey’s expulsion from NATO following President Tayyip Erdogan’s recent threats. Erdogan suggested that Turkey might intervene in Israel as it had in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh. In response, Katz instructed diplomats to engage with NATO members to condemn Turkey and demand its expulsion from the alliance.

Erdogan’s criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza has intensified, with his latest speech urging Turkey to be strong against Israel’s measures in Palestine. He hinted at a potential intervention without specifying details. Katz likened Erdogan’s threats to those of Saddam Hussein and reminded him of Hussein’s downfall.

Katz also accused Turkey of aligning with Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, noting that Turkey hosts Hamas headquarters responsible for attacks on Israel. Relations between Israel and Turkey, once strong, have been deteriorating for over a decade. Despite robust bilateral trade, Turkey recently announced a halt to trade with Israel until the Gaza conflict ends and aid flows freely into the region.
