TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved a new round of Gaza ceasefire talks to take place in Doha and Cairo, his office said Friday, days after the Gaza truce talks appeared stalled.

This decision comes in the wake of stalled negotiations following a UN Security Council resolution demanding an “immediate ceasefire” earlier in the week.

Efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement have been hindered by mutual accusations of blame between Palestinian resistance group Hamas and Israel. Despite Qatar’s assertion on Tuesday that discussions regarding a Gaza truce and the release of hostages were ongoing, details from both sides and intermediaries have been scant.

Netanyahu reportedly conferred with Mossad chief David Barnea regarding the negotiations, though specifics regarding Barnea’s potential involvement in the talks, including travel to Doha or Cairo, were not disclosed by the Prime Minister’s office.

Since October 7, Israel has launched a relentless bombardment campaign in Gaza killing at least 32,623 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
