ISLAMABAD: The Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin has acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic importance, vows to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors during her tenure. The envoy expresses these remarks on the occasion of Italy’s 78th National Day in Islamabad. The Ambassador extended her gratitude to the Pakistani people for their warm welcome, viewing it as a testament to the enduring friendship and ties between the two sides.  Pakistan and Italy share a longstanding bond that transcends geographical boundaries, she said. The envoy reflected on the depth and diversity of their bilateral ties, a revelation that has unfolded since his appointment. Representing Italy in Pakistan was not just an honor but also a privilege, the Italian Ambassador remarked.

The Pakistani diaspora in Italy served as a testament to the strong relations between the two countries. Their presence, marked by researchers, entrepreneurs, workers, and students, enriches both societies and fosters a sense of mutual understanding and appreciation’ she admitted.

The significant remittances they send back home, the Ambassador stated, underscored the strength of the bond between Pakistan and Italy.

The Ambassador recognized Pakistan’s immense potential, especially in sectors like energy generation and agriculture, where Italian expertise can play a key transformative role. Ambassador Marilina said that beyond economic cooperation, cultural exchange forms the bedrock of Pakistan- Italy ties, dating back to the 19th century. Famous scholars like Professor Giuseppe Tucci have excavated the shared heritage of the Gandhara region, laying the foundation for the current archaeological missions supported by the government of Italy.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to strengthening the bonds between Pakistan and Italy. With a shared vision for a brighter future, both sides embark on a journey of cooperation and friendship, guided by mutual respect and a desire for prosperity and progress.

Pakistan’s Minister for Housing Riaz Hussain Pirzada was the chief guest while PPP Senator Sherry Rehman was invited as a special guest.
