ROME: Italy has dispatched humanitarian aid to Gaza via a flight that landed in Jordan, aimed at supporting civilians under its ‘Food for Gaza’ initiative.
The shipment includes over 60 tons of food, hygiene kits, sanitary equipment, and 150 tents. Departing from Brindisi, the flight arrived in Amman, where the supplies will be forwarded to Gaza.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized Italy’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing the operation as a tangible demonstration of their concern.
Italy, in collaboration with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Program (WFP), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), leads the Food for Gaza initiative.
Earlier, the US military completed its mission to establish and operate a temporary floating pier off Gaza’s coast, concluding efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
Italy, pledging 30 million euros ($32.8 million) towards the initiative, also resumed funding for the UN Palestinian relief organization UNRWA in May.
