ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan on Friday awarded prestigious MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan) Research Scholarships to eleven Pakistani students for the academic year 2024-25. This initiative aims to provide these students with the opportunity to pursue advanced studies and research in various disciplines at prominent universities in Japan.

The MEXT research scholarship, fully funded by the Japanese government, supports Master’s or PhD degrees and is renowned worldwide, including in Pakistan. To prepare the scholarship recipients for their journey, the Embassy of Japan organized a pre-departure orientation. During the orientation, Pakistani alumni who had previously studied in Japan shared their knowledge and experiences, offering valuable advice to the new scholars.

Following the orientation, WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, hosted a reception at his official residence to honour the members of the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP) and bid farewell to the new scholarship recipients.

Ambassador WADA congratulated the scholars on their achievement and encouraged them to embrace not only academic knowledge but also Japanese culture and society. He emphasized the importance of engaging in extracurricular activities and learning the Japanese language to enhance their experience in Japan.

Ambassador WADA expressed confidence that despite the challenges of adjusting to life in Japan, the hospitality and friendship of the Japanese people would assist the scholars in their transition. He hoped that upon completing their studies, the scholars would return to Pakistan equipped with valuable knowledge and experiences to contribute to the country’s development and strengthen the bond between Japan and Pakistan.

Since its inception in 1954, the MEXT Research Scholarships program has supported numerous Pakistani students. These alumni have returned to Pakistan after completing their studies in Japan and have made significant contributions to various sectors, fostering friendly relations between the two countries. The Government of Japan continues to award fully-funded scholarships to Pakistani students annually, along with short-term scholarships and training courses throughout the year.
