Japan Culls 7.75m Birds over Record-High Bird Flu Cases

ISLAMABAD: According to Japanese authorities, the concerned department had culled around 7.75 million birds this season till Tuesday as across 23 provinces record-high cases were reported.

The ministry dealing with the forestry, agriculture, and fisheries sector disclosed that overall bird flu cases had increased to 54 with new infections being reported in Fukuoka and Chiba provinces.

Japan culls record-high number of birds this season

This season the number of birds culled has risen to record-high numbers as migratory birds have also been infected.

Japanese media reported that in the period between November 2020 and March 2021 a total of 18 provinces reported 52 cases of bird flu were reported. At that time, a total of 9.9 million chickens had been culled.

The ministry, in an effort to calm the public, said that were was no chance of people contracting bird flu from eating eggs or chicken.
