TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko on Tuesday strongly condemned the violence perpetrated by extremist Israeli settlers, labeling it as “absolutely unacceptable.”

Addressing the press in Tokyo, Kamikawa expressed deep concern over recent incidents of violence against innocent Palestinians in the West Bank and reiterated Japan’s stance against Israeli settlement activities. She emphasized that such activities are in violation of international law and pose a significant obstacle to achieving a two-state solution.

Referring to a press statement issued by Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Kobayashi Maki on March 8, Kamikawa reaffirmed Japan’s serious concerns regarding continued settlement activities by the Israeli government despite repeated calls from Japan and the international community.

“The Government of Japan strongly urges the Government of Israel to reverse its decision and fully freeze its settlement activities,” Kamikawa asserted.

She also noted that Japan is aware of entry bans imposed by several European countries and the United States on certain Israeli settlers. Kamikawa stated that Japan will continue to monitor the situation closely and take any necessary responses.

“Violence by extremist Israeli settlers is unacceptable,” Kamikawa reiterated, emphasizing Japan’s commitment to conveying this position clearly. She added that Japan will explore appropriate responses and maintain communication with the Israeli government to urge corrective action.
