Japan Provides Additional $5.7m to Pakistan for Weather Surveillance Radar

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan has provided an additional amount of Japanese Yen 760 million ($5.7 million) for an already signed grant aid project, namely the Installation of a Weather Surveillance Radar in Multan City worth JPY 2.042 billion.

Ministry of Economic Affairs Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz and the Embassy of Japan inked the Exchange Notes on behalf of their governments on 20 March 2023.

The objective of the project Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Multan City will be to help improve the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s capabilities in weather forecasting, meteorological observation, and dissemination of warnings by installing an advanced and sophisticated radar system. This will significantly contribute to mitigating damages brought by natural disasters and reduce vast damages to transportation and agricultural products.

Importance of Pak-Japan relations highlighted 

Dr. Kazim Niaz said that Pakistan accords high value to the congenial and reciprocal relations with Japan, and both countries share a common point of view on most regional and international issues. Japanese financial assistance has been playing a key role in the socio-economic uplift of Pakistan.
