Japan: Three Ministers Quit Over Kickback Scandal

TOKYO: Three Japanese ministers have tendered their resignations over a major kickback scandal in the ruling party, local media reported on Thursday.

Economy and Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura, Agriculture Minister Ichiro Miyashita and Internal Affairs Minister Junji Suzuki all did so Thursday, the local media report maintained. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno was likely to follow suit later in the day along with a five deputy ministers.

Earlier, Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio vowed to spearhead efforts to restore public’s trust in politics amid political funding accusations involving some factions of the major ruling party. He also said that he would reshuffle his cabinet on Thursday.
