NEW DELHI: A video went viral on social media, capturing Jaya Bachchan expressing her annoyance towards a parliamentary chairman who addressed her by her full name.  The veteran actress appeared displeased when the chairman addressed her as “Mrs. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan Ji.” In response, Jaya remarked, “Sir, if you had just called me ‘Jaya Bachchan,’ that would have sufficed.”

The chairman explained that he was using the full name listed, but Jaya pointed out, “This is a new thing where women are known by their husbands’ names. They have no identity of their own.” The chairman reiterated that the name was listed that way, to which Jaya sarcastically responded, “No sir, they have no identity, do they?”

The user who posted the clip on X commented: “It’s true that women should have their own identity. “But her arrogance and the way she reacted… Does she really think she would be in parliament if she was not Amitabh Bachchan’s wife?”

Fans had mixed reactions to the video. Some praised her as ‘brave,’ while others questioned why Amitabh’s name was included. One fan noted, “People today are so selective. Had there been any other female in her place, the comments would have supported her. She is not wrong though. Before she became a ‘Bachchan,’ she was a successful actress herself. Indeed, how far we have come.”
