Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology says Thursday’s rain in Jeddah was the highest ever.
The heavy rainfall that hit Jeddah was the highest ever recorded in the coastal city, Saudi Arabia National Meteorological Center (NCM) spokesman Hussein al-Qahtani said on Friday.
According to Alarabiya News, Thursday’s rain lasted about eight hours – from 8 am to 5 pm. – and stands at 179.7 millimeters of water, according to the monitoring center. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Jeddah in 2009, when NCM recorded 111 mm.

At least two people have died, several flights have been delayed, and schools have been forced to close as Saudi Arabia prepares for the floods.
Videos shared on social media showed flooded streets in Jeddah and other parts of the Kingdom as people ran for safety.
