AMMAN: King Abdullah of Jordan on Monday lauded authorities in the UAE for their diplomatic attempts to help achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza strip, and for the humanitarian assistance they have provided for the people of the besieged territory.

During a meeting in Amman with the speaker of the UAE’s Federal National Council, Saqr Ghobash, he stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire and ongoing deliveries of humanitarian aid, and called for the protection of civilians, the Jordan News Agency reported.

Israel bombardment in Gaza Strip has killed over 29,000 and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

According to the United Nations, the Israeli war on Gaza has forced 85 percent of the enclave’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of clean water, food, and medicine, while 60 percent of the Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

King Abdullah also highlighted the longevity and strength of the ties between Jordan and the UAE, and expressed his willingness to further strengthen those ties, particularly at the parliamentary level.

Ghobash expressing his views lauded the close ties between the two countries saying the Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and King Abdullah have always supported efforts to further boost the bilateral ties.
