ISLAMABAD: The Jordanian national football team arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday, signaling their comeback to Pakistan following an 18-year absence. Greeted warmly by the Jordanian ambassador and embassy officials upon landing from Muscat, the team was also welcomed by representatives from the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).

Amid stringent security arrangements, the Jordanian players were safely conveyed from the airport to their lodgings. Notably, their last visit to Pakistan was in 2006, nearly two decades prior.

This visit stirred excitement among football enthusiasts as Pakistan prepared to host a rare match. The highly anticipated showdown against Jordan is slated to occur on Thursday at the iconic Jinnah Football Stadium in the capital.

The clash between Pakistan and Jordan holds significance as both teams vie for victory and advancement to the FIFA World Cup 2026 second qualifiers round.

Earlier this year, the PFF acknowledged missing FIFA’s renovation deadline for Jinnah Stadium, raising concerns about hosting the World Cup qualifying match, especially during Ramadan. Exploring alternatives, the PFF engaged in discussions with the Jordan Football Association to potentially arrange a neutral venue for the pivotal qualifier.
