AMMAN: King of Jordan Abdullah on Tuesday held a meeting with president of Algeria’s People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, in Jordanian capital Amman, Jordan state media reported.
During the meeting both leaders underscored the longstanding historical relationship between the two nations. King Abdullah expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation with Algeria in various sectors, particularly at the legislative level.
He voiced his country’s backing for Algeria’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, stressing support for Arab initiatives, notably the cause of Palestine issue, and efforts to uphold international peace and security.
King Abdullah also lauded Algeria’s endeavors to facilitate a ceasefire in war-hit Gaza strip and its provision of humanitarian aid to the area.
Urgency to implement immediate ceasefire in Gaza stressed
He also stressed the urgency of increasing efforts to implement an immediate ceasefire, guarantee the delivery of humanitarian assistance and protect civilians.
Boughali later also held a separate meeting with acting president of the Jordanian Senate, Abdullah Ensour, and reviewed cooperation and regional developments.
During the meeting the two sides touched on the significance of expanding Jordan-Algeria ties highlighting King Abdullah’s visit to Algiers in 2022 as a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties.
Ensour also lauded Algeria for its support to the Palestinian cause and its diplomatic attempts within the African Union, and its role in the recent African summit that stressed for a ceasefire in Gaza in compliance with the orders of the International Court of Justice.
During the meeting, Ensour also called for an independent investigation into Israeli violations of humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
