KABUL: The Kabul-Jalalabad highway in Afghanistan remains inaccessible to traffic due to an ongoing landslide occurring in the Tangi Mahi-Par mountain range. Afghan officials said that the cleanup process on the highway cannot commence until the landslide and rockfall have ceased.

The closure of this vital highway has resulted in numerous complications for travelers and truck drivers. Cargo trucks, many loaded with fresh produce, are now stranded on both sides of the Tangi Mahi-Par, raising concerns about the potential spoilage of their goods if the highway remains closed.

To alleviate the issues faced by travelers, an alternative route through the Sarubi and Tagab districts of Kapisa province is being utilized, according to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshinas, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works.

The Ministry of National Defense has also reported the temporary opening of a side road along the Kabul-Jalalabad highway to facilitate traffic.

The Kabul-Jalalabad highway was closed on Saturday night after a landslide occurred in the Mahi-Par area of Surobi district in Kabul.
