WASHINGTON, USA: Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged the challenging road to defeating Donald Trump in the upcoming November election, but expressed confidence that her campaign would overcome his “wild lies.”

Speaking at a fundraising event in Massachusetts, which featured celebrity guests like singer-songwriter James Taylor and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Harris emphasized the grassroots nature of her campaign.

“We are the underdogs in this race, but this is a people-powered campaign,” she told the crowd. The event, which raised $1.4 million, was a platform for Harris to address Trump’s false claims about her record. “Donald Trump has been telling to some wild lies about my record. And some of what he and his running mate are saying, well, it’s just plain weird,” she said, referring to their false allegations, including claims about her stance on abortion rights.

Harris has made abortion rights a central issue in her campaign, especially after the Supreme Court, influenced by Trump’s conservative nominees, overturned the national right to the procedure in 2022. She challenged Trump to a debate after his campaign announced he would not participate in a scheduled face-off on September 10 stating she hope he reconsiders because we have a lot to talk about.

Trump’s Cryptocurrency Pitch and Rally Plans

Meanwhile, Trump addressed a bitcoin conference in Tennessee, despite having previously called cryptocurrency a “scam.” He now sees potential in the industry, likening its importance to the steel industry a century ago. “If crypto is going to define the future, I want it to be mined, minted, and made in the USA,” he said, advocating for the U.S. to become “the crypto capital of the planet.”

Trump also announced his return to outdoor rallies, despite being wounded in an attempted assassination at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. “I will continue to do outdoor rallies, and the Secret Service has agreed to substantially step up their operation,” he posted on his Truth Social platform. He is set to hold a rally with running mate J.D. Vance in Minnesota.

Harris’s Campaign Gains Momentum

Harris’s campaign, although starting late, has gained early momentum. Polls now show her in a close race with Trump, who has been in constant reelection mode since his 2016 presidency. She has garnered support from Democratic heavyweights, including President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

Supporters like Torianna Parrish, who greeted Harris in Massachusetts, expressed their enthusiasm. “I wanted to show there’s power in numbers. I wanted to show my support,” she said. At the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, James Taylor introduced Harris, saying, “Let us honor the woman and the moment and may our ardent support be the wind in her sails. Our hopes go with her and she stands for us all.”

As Harris works to become the first female president in U.S. history, her campaign is focused on rapidly assembling a robust strategy against Trump. Despite the challenges, her message of peace and equality resonates with many, fueling her campaign’s drive forward.
