WASHINGTON: Dough Emhoff, the husband of US Vice President Kamala Harris, has admitted to cheating on his first wife by involving in an extra-marital affair.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” Emhoff said in a statement provided exclusively to US media.
His statement comes after British media reported that Emhoff had an affair with a school teacher that resulted in the end of his first marriage. The Daily Mail reported that the woman became pregnant but did not keep the child.
Kamala Harris and Douglas Emhoff got married in 2014. That was Harris’s first marriage and the second of Emhoff.

Harris was aware of the extra-marital affair before her marriage to Emhoff. Those who conducted the Vice President’s vetting process in 2020 during the Biden campaign also knew about it.
Harris seeking to become the first female president in US history, is tasked with a campaign against her opponent Donald Trump who has been in a reelection mode since he became president in 2016.
She’s got support from Democratic heavyweights, including Joe Biden himself and most recently Barack and Michelle Obama.
