KARACHI: Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi, have been arrested by the police in Karachi.

The arrests occurred during a protest on Shahrah-e-Faisal, where the police resorted to firing tear shells and conducted aerial firing to disperse the protesters.

Among those detained were also Adeel Ahmed, a Sindh Assembly Member, and 23 other PTI workers near Kala Pul. The PTI leaders, along with 23 party workers, were taken into custody near Kala Pul.

These arrests come amidst nationwide protests following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He was subsequently referred to a seven-member medical board at the Poly Clinic in Islamabad for a medical examination.

The arrest of Imran Khan was carried out by Rangers personnel who were acting on the warrant issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Imran Khan had gone to the premises of the Islamabad High Court to seek bail in multiple cases registered against him when he was taken into custody.

PTI workers stage countrywide protests

In response to the arrests, protests erupted in various cities across the country. The PTI announced nationwide demonstrations following the arrest of their former prime minister, Imran Khan.

The official PTI Twitter handle made the appeal for protests, and hundreds of PTI workers took to the streets in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Multan, and other cities to voice their dissent against the arrest of their leader.

In Islamabad, police arrested several PTI workers who had blocked the Srinagar Highway as part of their protest. Similarly, in Karachi, both lanes of Sharea Faisal were blocked by PTI Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), leading to traffic disruptions.

The situation remains tense as PTI supporters express their outrage over the arrest of Imran Khan and the subsequent arrests of PTI leaders in Karachi. Security forces are working to maintain control and ensure public safety.
