PARIS: Karolina Muchova, the French Open finalist, will have to extend her time away from the court following surgery for a right wrist injury, sidelining her for the past five months, according to the world number 10.
The 27-year-old Czech, who had an impressive season last year, culminating in a runner-up finish to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros and a semi-final appearance at the US Open in September, where the injury occurred.
Despite qualifying for the WTA Finals for the first time in Cancun, Mexico, Muchova had to withdraw due to the injury and also missed last month’s Australian Open. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Muchova shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed with her arm in a cast, captioning it “Wrist upgrade: completed.” She expressed determination to overcome the rehabilitation challenges, stating, “Following my injury at the US Open and an extensive rehabilitation phase, it turned out that a medical intervention was necessary.
So here I am, tired and sad, but I know I’ll be okay now. The surgery was successful and I’m going to do all I can to see you on the court again soon.” Muchova has faced setbacks throughout her career due to various injuries, including abdominal and ankle issues in 2022.
