LONDON:  The Kashmir Black Day was observed in London on Sunday to strongly condemn the Indian atrocities in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and express solidarity with the people of the disputed region.

It is pertinent to mention that on October 27, 1947, Indian forces invaded Srinagar in an attempt to occupy the Kashmir region illegally.

The Black Day rally in London was organized by the All-Party Coordination Committee and attended by a large number of Kashmiri diaspora.

The rally started from the British Prime Minister’s residence, and after passing through different areas of London, culminated outside the Indian High Commission.

The participants raised slogans against Indian brutalities in IIOJK while leaders of the All-Party Coordination Committee including its president Faheem Kayani spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, speakers at a program arranged by the Kashmir Council in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the long-standing dispute of Kashmir.

They also called for ending human rights abuses in the disputed valley and providing Kashmiri leaders a platform to express their opinions at international fora.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Sweden, Bilal Hayee, expressing his views said that the tragedy of Kashmir started when India occupied the State of Jammu and Kashmir by sending its troops without the consent of the people of Kashmir.

The Pakistan Consulate in Dubai also organized an event to mark Kashmir Black Day which was attended by members of the Kashmiri and Pakistani communities.

Hussain Muhammad, Consul General addressing the gathering, thanked the participants for attending the event and showing solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir.

He said that the day is a reminder of the unresolved issue and unfulfilled pledges made under the resolutions of the UN Security Council. “The people of IIOJK continue to face hardships for over seven decades”, said the Consul General.

“In today’s digital world, our youth must highlight the Kashmir issue on the international stage so that the world remains informed about the continued struggle of the Kashmiri people,” stressed the Consul General.
