ISLAMABAD: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders have expressed their concern over the increase in human rights violations by Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) during the sacred month of Ramadan.
In a joint statement issued in Islamabad, the leaders, including Syed Aijaz Rehmani, Muhammad Sultan Butt, Shaikh Muhammad Yaqoob, Shameem Shawl, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Syed Manzoor Shah, and Qazi Imran, condemned the Indian army’s cordon and search operations, which they say are a guise for committing blatant human rights violations in the region.
The leaders praised Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asmi Munir’s recent statement on Kashmir, saying that it provides encouragement and strength to the Kashmiri people who are fighting against Indian state terrorism to secure their right to self-determination.
Kashmiri leaders term Pakistan a real ambassador
They added that Pakistan is the real ambassador and benefactor of the Kashmiris and is effectively advocating for the Kashmir cause on the international stage. The leaders expressed their hope that Pakistan will not compromise on its principled stance on Kashmir.
The APHC-AJK leaders also appealed to the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other human rights bodies to play their role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
They urged the international community to take notice of the ongoing human rights abuses in IIOJK and to put pressure on India to end its occupation of the region.
The situation in IIOJK has been tense for decades, with Pakistan and India both claiming the region in its entirety. The UN has passed several resolutions calling for a plebiscite to be held to determine the region’s status, but India has refused to abide by these resolutions.
As a result, the Kashmiri people continue to suffer from human rights abuses at the hands of Indian forces. Many Kashmiris have welcomed the recent statement by Pakistan Army Chief Syed Asmi Munir as a sign of hope in their struggle for freedom and justice.
