ISLAMABAD: As the United Nations Day is being observed across the globe today (October 24), innocent Kashmiris are still awaiting the implementation of the world organization’s resolutions regarding the plebiscite.

A report issued by Kashmir Media Service, today, said when the UN is marking its 78th founding anniversary, India continues to disregard the Security Council’s resolutions on Kashmir.

It said United Nations Day is another reminder that the Kashmir dispute remains unresolved despite being on the UN’s agenda for over seven decades, adding it is time to extend unwavering support to the struggling Kashmiris.

The report underscores that the United Nations resolutions validate Kashmiris’ right to a free and fair referendum and the UN is duty-bound to fulfil its obligations regarding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The Kashmir dispute is the oldest one on the agenda of the United Nations, it further added. The BJP-led Indian government’s 5th Aug 5 2019 brutal, undemocratic and unconstitutional actions violate UN resolutions on the occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, it said.

The report emphasizes that the unresolved Kashmir dispute casts a question mark on the UN’s credibility as it is the responsibility.

The report said, the peace and democratic world must support Kashmiris’ struggle for the UN-sanctioned right to self-determination, adding settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions is imperative for fostering peace and stability in South Asia. —APP
