MIRPUR: Kashmiris across around the world are preparing to observe August 5 as a day of protest against India’s decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir three years ago.

The move is seen as a “darkest day” in the history of the region, with various social, religious and political, organizations vowing to hold anti-India demonstrations and rallies across the Line of Control and internationally.

The protest is a response to India’s nefarious act, that abrogated Articles 370 and 35A, altering the disputed region’s historical and geographical status. Kashmiri leaders have declared India as an “international terrorist country” and accused it of turning the region into the “world’s largest prison.”

Former President of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Syed Nishat Hussain Kazmi, condemned the settlement of non-Kashmiri Hindus in the area, warning of a “grave concern” over the changing population ratio and occupation of property of Kashmiri people.

He called upon the international community, including the UN, to take immediate notice of India’s “open violation” of human rights and international norms.

The Kashmiri leader sought global support to resolve the long-standing issue of Kashmir peacefully, ensuring lasting regional peace.
