MIRPUR: The people of Kashmir, on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and around the world, observed ‘Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir’ (Kashmir’s Exploitation Day) as a day of mourning in response to India’s 2019 move to revoke the special status of the disputed Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In Mirpur, a city in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the commemoration was marked by a series of events organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and supported by various Kashmiri freedom organizations and the AJK government.
This day was observed to protest the Indian government’s forced action on August 5, 2019, which abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, a region recognized as internationally disputed and currently under Indian illegal occupation.
Speakers at the event called on international human rights organizations and the United Nations to address India’s escalating brutality against the innocent population in IIOJK.
