Kazakh President’s Extensive Diplomatic Engagements in 2023, Visits to Key Nations

ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has had a dynamic year of diplomatic engagements, spending a total of 33 days on international visits and an additional 17 days touring various regions within Kazakhstan. Berik Uali, the Press Secretary of the Head of State, shared these details in an interview with Kazinform News Agency.

During the course of 2023, President Tokayev covered an impressive distance of 152,921 kilometers and devoted 243 hours and 46 minutes to travel by planes and helicopters. This substantial journey is equivalent to circumnavigating the Earth’s Equator approximately four times.

Among the notable foreign visits, President Tokayev conducted a state visit to China, official visits to the UAE, Vietnam, Germany, and China, as well as working visits to Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Russia, the US, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, and the UAE.

Kazakh President’s International Diplomatic Engagements

The state visit to China featured significant discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, addressing comprehensive cooperation in various sectors such as trade, economics, oil and gas, petrochemicals, energy, education, science, finance, and transport-transit.

President Tokayev participated in the opening ceremony of Kazakhstan’s National Pavilion on the JD.com platform and the foundation-laying ceremony of Kazakhstan’s logistics center in Xi’an dry port. He also attended the One Belt, One Road International Cooperation Forum, alongside leaders from 20 countries and representatives from over 130 states.

President Tokayev’s official visit to the United Arab Emirates included negotiations with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on the development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation. The President engaged with the UAE business community during the visit.

In Vietnam, the Kazakh President met with President Vo Van Thuong, exploring prospects for cooperation in trade, economics, investment, energy, transport-logistics, agro-industrial, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Germany was a significant destination during the official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. President Tokayev held talks with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholtz and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. He also participated in a meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and Germany, alongside interactions with the German business community.
