Kazakhstan President Chairs Extended Meeting of Internal Affairs Ministry Board

ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired an extended session of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, underscoring the crucial role played by law enforcement in upholding the principle of ‘law and order’ in the country.

The meeting, attended by the leadership of the Presidential Administration, government agencies, regional governors, and members of the ministry’s board, focused on the significant responsibility borne by the police in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

President Tokayev stressed the importance of a smoothly functioning and effective law enforcement system, emphasizing the need for accountability for those who break the law. He highlighted the potential consequences of legal ignorance, emphasizing that it could hinder the country’s development and negatively impact its image. The President expressed concern about the risks posed by destructive ideologies, particularly for the younger generation, emphasizing the need for strong immunity against such violations.

Respect for the rule of law, according to President Tokayev, should be a fundamental value for responsible citizens, with law and order serving as instrumental in building a just Kazakhstan. The President called on law enforcement agencies to prioritize the prevention of law violations, particularly domestic violence, and announced plans to introduce corresponding amendments to the Criminal Code in the near future.

President Tokayev urged the police to adopt a ‘hearing mode’ of work, emphasizing the importance of actively listening to the public and responding promptly to their concerns. Ensuring children’s safety, combating drug distribution, addressing cybercrimes, and countering internet scams were identified as critical areas that law enforcement agencies should focus on.
