Kazakhstan’s Embassy Hosts Round Table on Asian Multilateral Cooperation in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Pakistan organized a round table discussion on the topic “The Asian factor of multilateral cooperation in the global and regional agenda: current state and future prospects.” The event was dedicated to the priorities of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The distinguished Chief Guest for the event was Mushahid Hussain Syed, the Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Senate of Pakistan, and former Minister of Information and Broadcasting. The round table was moderated by Dr. Hasan Daud Butt, a professor at Bahria University.

Key participants from the Kazakh side included Ambassador Doulat Kuanyshev, an expert in the military-political dimension of CICA, and Murat Mukushev, the National Coordinator for SCO activities. Analysts from institutions such as KazISS, FPRI, and the Center for Trade and Economic Strategies were also present.

The round table saw the attendance of senators, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, heads of leading universities and think tanks in the capital, journalists from reputable media, and students specializing in international relations.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan Yerzhan Kistafin, in his welcoming speech, outlined the significant milestones in the formation of CICA and SCO, emphasizing common goals and objectives. He highlighted the growing role and relevance of these organizations in the evolving international landscape.

Cooperation Between Pakistan and Kazakhstan

Ambassador Kistafin expressed the need to enhance cooperation between Kazakhstan and Pakistan within the frameworks of CICA and SCO to strengthen interaction across various fields and collectively address current challenges and threats.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed underscored the importance of Kazakhstan-Pakistani cooperation within CICA and SCO, aligning with the tasks and priorities identified by Kazakhstan in its role as the presiding country. He emphasized the historical relations between the two countries and advocated for their expansion and diversification.

The participants and speakers unanimously agreed on the importance of supporting Kazakh initiatives to promote dialogue in Asia and find collective solutions to existing threats and challenges. Key areas such as counter-terrorism, extremism, climate change, and territorial conflicts were discussed, with an emphasis on the necessity of developing business ties to stimulate trade and economic cooperation among Asian countries.

Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin expressed personal gratitude to Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and other notable attendees for their valuable contributions to the discussion.
