ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to embark on a two-day visit to Qatar starting Tuesday, as reported by The Astana Times. During his visit, President Tokayev will hold bilateral talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as meet with other high-ranking Qatari officials, including Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
The agenda for the visit includes participation in a Qatar-Kazakhstan investment round table, aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations in various sectors. This visit underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen the economic and diplomatic ties between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
Bilateral Relations Between Kazakhstan and Qatar
The upcoming meeting follows the landmark visit of Qatar’s Emir to Kazakhstan in June last year, during which significant strides were made to enhance bilateral relations. The signing of a partnership agreement between Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (IPA Qatar) and Kazakh Invest further cemented the commitment to boost trade and investment cooperation.
Qatar’s investments in Kazakhstan have been substantial, reflecting the longstanding partnership between the two countries. Notably, Qatar’s contributions, including funding the construction of the Astana Mosque and providing medical assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic, highlight the depth of bilateral cooperation.
With Kazakhstan’s strategic geographical position and its robust economy, the potential for further collaboration in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and energy remains promising. Kazakhstan’s pivotal role in Central Asia’s economy, accounting for 80% of the region’s trade volume, underscores its significance as a key partner for Qatar and the broader region.
