NAIROBI: A fire resulting from a gas explosion in Nairobi, Kenya killed three people and injured about 300, local media reported on Friday.
The Kenyan Red Cross said that about 300 people have been wounded in a massive fire caused by a gas explosion in Nairobi. “The solid actions of various response units have resulted in the successful evacuation of around 271 people to different health facilities in Nairobi,” the Kenya Red Cross said on its social media platform, saying that an additional 27 individuals were treated on the spot.

AFP reported that at around 6:30 am local time, firefighters were still working to bring the fire under control.
According to Reuters, the fire, in Nairobi’s Embakasi neighbourhood, started before midnight at a gas refilling firm. Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said on social media that the building was damaged to great extent. Wesley Kimeto, in charge of police in Embakasi, was cited as saying on the Standard newspaper’s social media account that two people were killed in the incident.
Earlier, Adamson Bungei, Nairobi region’s police commander, was quoted on the Standard’s social media account saying 165 people have injured in the incident and taken to the nearby hospital. Moreover, Reuters reported that several nearby houses are burning in the area.
