SYDNEY, Australia: Kenyan runner Brimin Misoi and Ethiopia’s Workenesh Edesa set new course records at the Sydney Marathon.
Misoi won the men’s race in 2 hours, 6 minutes, 17 seconds, beating the previous record by 46 seconds. He broke away from the pack at the 30km mark, with Ethiopia’s Chalu Deso Gelmisa finishing second, and Kenyan Felix Kiptoo Kirwa coming third.
Edesa dominated the women’s race, finishing in 2:21:41, shattering the previous record by nearly three minutes. The event drew 25,000 participants and is in the running to join the World Marathon Majors by 2025.
