ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is using Afghan soil to carry out attacks on Pakistan.
In an interview with an international publication, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan had raised the issue of TTP’s use of Afghan soil with the Taliban government in Afghanistan.
Asif added that during his last visit to Afghanistan, he discussed the matter in detail with the Taliban government, and they have agreed to cooperate with Pakistan to address this issue.
The Afghan Taliban government has also reportedly assured Pakistan that their soil would not be used against any other country.
The National Security Committee (NSC) in Pakistan has approved a multi-pronged comprehensive military operation, with the support of the government and Pakistani nation, to eradicate terrorism from the country with renewed determination and valour.
The committee has noted that the recent wave of terrorism in Pakistan resulted from the soft corner and the absence of a thorough policy against the TTP.
Comprehensive operation against TTP
The NSC has further observed that due to the return of dangerous terrorists and the support of different terrorist organizations from Afghanistan, stability and peace, which were the result of innumerable sacrifices and continuous efforts, have been affected.
Pakistan has been facing the threat of terrorism for many years, and TTP has been one of the most prominent groups responsible for these attacks.
The group has been known to use Afghanistan as a base for its operations, taking advantage of the porous border between the two neighbouring countries.
The Pakistani government has been taking measures to address this issue and has been working with the Afghan Taliban government to ensure that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorists. The cooperation between the two countries is essential for the stability and security of the region.
