ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has condemned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for hinting at direct negotiations with Afghanistan on cross-border terrorism, labeling the comments as an “attack” on the federation.
Addressing the National Assembly on Thursday, Asif stated, “No province has the authority to engage in direct talks with a foreign country.”
He characterized Gandapur’s remarks as “poisonous” and a potential threat to national security.
Earlier on Wednesday, the KP CM had said he would send a delegation to Afghanistan to address the security situation in the province.
“I announce that I will speak to Afghanistan myself, I will send a delegation, I will sit down with them and resolve the issue,” he said while addressing a gathering of bar council associations in Peshawar.
