PESHAWAR: On Wednesday, Khyber Medical University (KMU) officially announced the results for the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The retake, prompted by technological misuse during the initial September 2023 exam, occurred on Sunday, November 26, across seven districts in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, monitored under strict security measures.

KMU, the governing body for MDCAT, disclosed that six outstanding candidates secured the highest position, achieving an impressive 192 marks in the competitive test. Further breaking down the data, eleven candidates distinguished themselves by surpassing the 190-mark threshold, while an impressive 402 candidates displayed commendable performance, scoring between 180 and 189. A significant 1910 candidates achieved scores ranging between 170 and 179.

Moreover, 2,982 candidates showcased their competence by securing scores between 160 and 169.

Khyber Medical University reported that out of the initial 46,218 candidates registered for the MDCAT, only 34,852 actively took the test. The absence of 11,366 registered candidates on test day stood out notably, as highlighted by the university.

The decision for a retake of the MDCAT in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was made by the caretaker provincial cabinet in September, following widespread unfair practices observed during the initial September 11 examination.

The first test faced controversy due to over 40 students being caught attempting to cheat using advanced Bluetooth devices. Despite a successful identification of the mastermind behind this scandal by a joint investigation team appointed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, the individual’s identity remained undisclosed to the public.

The recent retake of the MDCAT represents a crucial step toward ensuring fairness and transparency in medical education evaluations within the region.
