PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to crack down on illegal housing societies across the province.

In a meeting chaired by Provincial Finance Advisor Muzamil Islam, it was decided to ban housing societies that operate without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and impose fines on them.

The CM aide said that illegal housing societies pose a significant threat to agricultural lands and food security, as well as causing environmental issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He called an important meeting in next week to make a comprehensive policy for managing illegal housing societies.

This policy will include steps to ensure compliance with NOC and other legal requirements. The unchecked growth of illegal housing societies is also contributing to food security and environmental concerns.

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) in 2020 had identified over 150 “illegal” housing societies in Peshawar city alone.

Separately, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has advised citizens against investing in illegal housing societies.

According to an RDA spokesperson, the authority has intensified its ongoing campaign against unauthorized housing schemes.

The spokesperson noted that, following directives from the Divisional Intelligence Committee, the RDA has launched operations against violators of regulations.

The Task Force established to take stringent action against illegal housing schemes recently conducted operations targeting four such schemes: Capital Valley, New Airport Town, Banni Mehbob, and Gulshan-e-Bahar, situated in Mouzas Katrian, Thalian, and Pilo, Rawalpindi.
