MOSCOW: The Kremlin said Monday it had noted the “unfriendly rhetoric” against Russia used by US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s frontrunner nominee to replace Joe Biden in the upcoming US presidential election.

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously expressed a preference for dealing with Joe Biden over Donald Trump, describing the Democrat as “more predictable” in his approach.

When asked about Harris potentially leading the Democratic candidacy, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov remarked, “There have been some statements which were full of unfriendly rhetoric towards our country,” without specifying the exact comments he was referring to.

Harris, much like Biden, has maintained a steadfast stance in support of Ukraine since Russia launched a major military offensive in February 2022. Earlier this year, she condemned the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a prison, attributing it to “Putin’s brutality.”

She has also been vocal in denouncing Russia’s actions in Ukraine, describing them as “horrendous atrocities,” “gruesome,” “barbaric,” and “inhumane.”

Regarding Harris’s potential impact on US-Russia bilateral relations, Peskov indicated that Moscow has not observed any significant contributions from her that would influence their stance positively or negatively.

“We have not recorded anything she’s done in terms of our bilateral relations, either positively or negatively,” Peskov added.

Biden on Sunday endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him in the presidential election, shortly after he announced he was dropping out with under four months to go until the presidential vote.
