MOSCOW: The Kremlin confirmed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had made a visit to the military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don, where oversight of the Ukraine offensive is being conducted.

In an official statement, the Kremlin revealed that Putin’s visit occurred while he was returning from Perm, a city in the Urals, where he had spent Thursday. During his stop in Rostov-on-Don, he met with Army chief of staff Valery Gerasimov, who provided him with an update on the ongoing status of the Ukraine offensive, initiated by Russia in February 2022.

This visit followed Ukraine’s recent announcement on Tuesday that they had used long-range ATACMS missiles supplied by the United States for the first time in the conflict. In response, Putin stated the following day that these missiles, with a range of 165 kilometers (103 miles), would not significantly impact the war and would only serve to prolong Ukraine’s suffering.
