KSA Participates at the G20 Space Economy Leaders Meeting in Brazil

BRASILIA: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), represented by the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), participated in the G20 Space Economy Leaders Meeting held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the SPA, the delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) was led by the CEO of SSA, Dr. Mohammed Altamimi.  The event focused on enhancing the global role of the space economy as well as its contributions to addressing environmental challenges and leveraging technological advancements in space to obtain sustainable development targets.

In his address, CEO Dr. Altamimi highlighted that this year’s theme, “Space Economy and Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities,” underlines the key role of the space sector in confronting international environmental challenges and its key contribution to enhancing the quality of life on Earth.

Dr. Altamimi also extended his gratitude to the Government of Brazil, particularly to the CEO of the Brazilian Space Agency, Marco Antonio Chamon, for their efforts in holding the 5th edition of this important meeting.

He also highlighted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) commitment to advancing the international space economy. He also noted that the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) has set up the “Future Space Center” in partnership with the World Economic Forum. He reiterated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s belief that investment in space is essential for humanity’s progress.

The Space Economy Leaders Meeting is one of the outcomes of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s G20 presidency, which, for the first time, included it as an agenda item. The Kingdom aims to improve global space cooperation to maximize the benefits of the space economy and the use of space data in supporting sustainable development, global health and food security.
