MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia: The General Authority for Roads in Saudi Arabia has announced the completion of Makkah roads ahead of the upcoming Hajj season, 1445 AH.
The road works involved surveying and upgrading 4,000 kilometers of roadways so that pilgrims have a seamless and comfortable experience.
The improvements included scraping and resurfacing 158 km of roads, addressing cracks and potholes at 403 locations, trimming 2,361 km of road shoulders, removing sand dunes covering 1,240 cubic meters and cleaning valley streams at 421 locations, Gulf News reported.
Described by the World Bank as the first in global road network connectivity, Saudi Arabia’s road network plays a key role in connecting the holy sites and facilitating the safe and efficient travel of pilgrims.
Further ensuring the readiness of these roads Eng. Bader Al Dalami, Acting CEO of the General Authority for Roads, conducted an inspection tour of more than 2,000 km of roads leading to key religious sites.
The tour included key routes such as the Riyadh-Taif highway, connecting the capital to Taif, and the Taif Al-Sail Road, which is crucial for pilgrim travel during the Hajj. Al Dalami also reviewed the Taif-Khurma-Rania-Bisha Road, a major artery serving several governorates in Makkah. —APP
