KSA, Ukraine Ink Agreement Worth $400 Million of Aid

RIYADH: The Kingdom Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Ukraine have inked an agreement and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth $400 million of aid and assistance to the Eastern European nation. According to Arab media, it is an execution of the promise made by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his telephonic call with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022 on supplying an additional humanitarian assistance package to Kyiv.

Saudi Minister for Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and head of Ukraine’s President office Andriy Yermak attended the signing ceremony in Kyiv on Sunday. The deal includes a joint cooperation program to supply humanitarian aid to Kyiv worth $100 million.

KSA-Ukraine ties

The MoU includes the financing of oil byproducts worth $300 million as a grant submitted by Saudi Government via the Saudi Fund for Development. The deal was inked by CEO SFD Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, and Ukrainian Minister for Energy German Galushchenko.

According to the Saudi Press Agency the inking of the agreement and the MoU reflected the KSA’s support of Kyiv in the face of economic and social challenges.

Earlier, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky received Saudi Minister for Foreign Affair in Kyiv on Sunday. Saudi Minister for Foreign Affairs said that Riyadh was working with Kyiv to alleviate the economic impact of the conflict in Ukraine. He said that he was holding talks over opportunities for investment cooperation with Kyiv. The two sides also discussed regional and global matters of mutual interest during the meeting. The KSA’s minister said that they would continue to discuss opportunities to resolve the conflict with all parties.

Saudi Crown Prince had also held telephonic talks with President Zelensky on Friday. The Crown Prince expressed the KSA’s readiness to continue its efforts at mediation, and his country’s support of steps that contributed to de-escalation of crisis, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
