KSA, UN Discuss Political Settlement in Syria

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan and UN Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed means to find a political settlement in Syria, Arab media reported on Wednesday.

According to Arab news, the two sides held the discussion during a phone conversation and exchanged the efforts of the Syrian President to resolve the crisis in the war-hit country.

Saudi Foreign Minister affirmed the KSA’s keenness to exercise all efforts to reach a political settlement to the crisis in Syria that preserves Syria’s security, unity, stability, and Arab affiliation and achieves progress and development for the country.

Earlier, KSA’s deputy foreign minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji also received the Syrian minister for foreign affairs Faisal Mekdad in the Kingdom.

The minister is visiting Saudi Arabia in response to an invitation from Saudi foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to attend a session dealing with efforts to reach a political settlement to the crisis in Syria.

The session will also discuss ways to facilitate Syrian refugees to return to their country and ensure the arrival of humanitarian assistance in affected areas of the country.
