AL-DHALE: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has distributed 2,251 food packages in the districts in Abyan and Al-Dhale governorates in Yemen, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

The support benefited 2,251 families comprising 15,757 individuals and was part of the life-saving food aid program for the most underprivileged households in Yemen for the current year.

This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s endeavor to cater for the basic food requirements of the most vulnerable families in Yemen through KSrelief.

The Ksrelief under another programme has rehabilitated the Fish Landing Center in the Al-Khawkhah District, of Al-Hudaydah governorate as part of the emergency support to protect the agriculture-, livestock- and fishery-based livelihoods of highly vulnerable populations in Yemen, the SPA reported.

The project was implemented with the cooperation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Governor of Al-Hudaydah, Dr. Al-Hassan Taher lauded the KSrelief assistance, saying that the fish landing center will help revive the fishing sector in the area.

He said the programme would also improve the living standards and income of fishermen and their families, as well as of those involved in the selling, marketing and exporting of fish. It will also help to preserve fish by providing a solar-powered cooling storage facility.

The project aims to rehabilitate and activate the most important fish landing centers along the coastal areas of Yemen.

It would also provide 1,000 iceboxes and 3,000 life jackets to 3,000 fishermen in the Al-Mahrah governorate, and supporting farmers and herders, enabling them to continue producing food for household consumption and local markets.

This project is part of the humanitarian and relief initiatives provided by the Kingdom, through KSrelief, to enhance food security and support farmers and livestock breeders in various cities and governorates of Yemen.
