KSrelief Initiates Training and Empowerment Courses for Girls in Yemen

HADHRAMAUT: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has launched training and empowerment courses in Yemen’s Hadhramaut Governorate to bring girls who have dropped out of schools in Yemen back to education, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

According to the SPA, the project is implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

Under the project the girls were trained in sewing and embroidery and food and pastry manufacturing. Professional and craft support to the heads of the families of orphan girls were also provided.

The Director of the Office of the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training in the Hadhramaut Coast, Dr. Salem Salah Bajaber, stressed the interest in this segment of society and involving them in training and empowering them economically, which help females to find job opportunities.

He also lauded the role of Saudi Arabia, represented by its humanitarian arm, KSrelief in supporting such projects that develop skills and realize self-sufficiency for families in need.

The project helped girls who were dropped out of schools by providing them with second educational opportunities through securing basic equipment for 21 schools.

The project also developed the capabilities of 350 teachers and mentors, equipping 64 alternative classrooms to include girls in displacement camps.  It empowered 280 female heads of families and parents of female students, and implemented 14 awareness and encouragement campaigns to support girls’ education in Yemen.
