HAJJAH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has conducted a measles vaccination and pregnant women survey campaign in Yemen from April 29 to May 3, benefiting 15,384 individuals, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

The campaign shows that the Kingdom gives great attention to the health sector in needy countries across the world, especially in Yemen, due to the critical importance of this sector.

As part of KSrelief efforts to support the health sector and improve the quality of medical services to patients in Yemen, the centre carried out the measles vaccination and pregnant women survey campaign in the districts of Midi, Haradh, Abs, and Hiran, in Hajjah governorate, and Razih district, in Saada governorate, from April 29 to May 30.

The campaign benefited 15,384 individuals, and addressed the severe threat posed by the contagious disease of measles, especially to children’s lives, amid Yemen’s difficult humanitarian crisis.

KSrelief, in cooperation with the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population, responded promptly and conducted the project in Yemen through three main activities.

Under one project measles vaccination campaign for children under the age of 18, with the participation of 17 healthcare workers was conducted in several medical facilities in Yemen. Additionally, a medical clinic was also set up in the Razih Camp, in the Saada governorate.

Seven mobile field teams were also dispatched to cover 70 areas and villages across different districts.

The second activity involved conducting an awareness campaign among all population groups by distributing brochures and posters that explained the nature of measles, its key symptoms, how to prevent and limit its spread, how to deal with suspected cases, the main preventive measures, areas and mechanisms for administering vaccinations during the campaign, and encouraging community members to get vaccinated.

Under the third activity, a survey of a number of pregnant women in the targeted districts was conducted, where they were monitored and encouraged to get early immunization for their children.

The survey aimed to achieve statistics to facilitate proper reproductive health planning, assess the health status of pregnant mothers, and identify their requirements.

All these efforts are exerted by Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, to help the people of Yemen by carrying out healthcare projects and bolstering the medical sector of Yemen.
