Kurrum To Have Science And Technology Varsity

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi has said that a university of science and technology would be established in the Kurrum district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

He said that in a meeting with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad it was agreed to establish the technology university the Kurram district which will be a catalyst to ameliorate the deprivations of the people of the area.

He said that it was decided during the meeting that every newly established district would have universities so that all students of the former FATA areas could have access to higher education.

The minister said that the progress and prosperity of any region depended on the quality of education. The educated youth of Pakistan would have more opportunities, he said.

“Education is a form of investment as it provides a stream of income just as any other investment would,” he said.

He said that he had desired to establish universities in all tribal districts and he was happy to announce the setting up of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) in the Kurrum district.

He said that a formal decision has also been taken to establish a university in Parachinar, which would be inaugurated soon. The university will offer various programmes in science and information technology.
