BERLIN: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that the question of whether or not to arm Kyiv with warplanes currently “makes no sense,” German media reported on Thursday.

In an interview with a television, the German Chancellor said that other nations’ difficulties in meeting Kyiv’s demands vindicated his choice to move in lockstep with them.

Kyiv is now demanding for warplanes, though Berlin does not have any of the F-16 jet fighters.

Speaking on the eve of the 1st anniversary of Moscow’s invasion, the German Chancellor expressed fear that the crisis in Ukraine could become “a very long-lasting war,” but said that his country and the west would assist Kyiv for as long as required.

Scholz said that the Russian President would eventually have to realized that his war aims were not achievable. He also said that there are only a few countries on Moscow’s side.
