ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan Ulanbek Totuiaev stressed the need to fully explore the vast trade and economic potential between the two countries besides further strengthening the existing economic relations.

The Envoy said this while inaugurating the Kyrgyzstan Trade House, in Islamabad on Friday, adding that Kyrgyzstan products will be displayed in the center to attract Pakistani buyers and investors in different sectors.

He further said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are enjoying friendly relations, but bilateral trade of around $8 to $9 million was much lower than the actual potential of the two countries that needed to be enhanced to get better fruitful results.

Trade, economic potential

He said that Kyrgyzstan is full of natural resources and this year exported coal to Pakistan and wish to send other products as well. Meanwhile, Pakistan can also export different products to Kyrgyzstan including pharmaceuticals, textiles, and agricultural products among others.

He added at present India is exporting marble to Kyrgyzstan, however, if proper measures are taken marble exporters from Pakistan can also capture the market in Kyrgyzstan.

The ambassador further said that a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project would be stretched to Peshawar through Afghanistan in the future which would assist in boosting trade relations.

He said it’s fortunate that both Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan agreed last Friday to increase the economic and trade cooperation and enhance regional connectivity to provide regional economic and trade integration with the Central Asian States.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Kyrgyzstan Trade House (KTH) Meher Kashif said KTH will perform as a bridge between the traders and investors of the two countries and desirable Pakistani traders will be facilitated to visit Kyrgyzstan for investment and joint endeavors.

He further said the trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan with Pakistan amounted to 5.9 million dollars in 2021 with Pakistan’s exports up to 5.3 million dollars and imports 0.6 million, which he added needs to be further enhanced in near future.
