Kyrgyz President Japarov Unveils Monument to Poet Moldo Niyaz

KADAMJAI, Kyrgyzstan: Kyrgyzstan marked the 200th birthday of Moldo Niyaz, a revered poet and intellectual, with a ceremony unveiling a monument near the state administration building of Kadamjai district.

President Sadyr Japarov participated in the event, paying tribute to Moldo Niyaz’s significant contributions to Kyrgyz literature and culture.

Born in 1823 in the Kadamjai district of Batken region, Moldo Niyaz, also known as Moldo Niyaz Ernazar uulu, holds a prominent place in Kyrgyzstan’s cultural history. Recognized as the first Kyrgyz written akyn, he was not only a poet but also an enlightener, philosopher, and thinker. The monument unveiling ceremony included the laying of floral tributes and recitation of prayers, reflecting the profound respect for Moldo Niyaz’s legacy.

Moldo Niyaz, an erudite individual, authored the first written manuscript in the Kyrgyz language titled “Sanattar.” His linguistic prowess extended to Arabic, Persian, and ancient Turkic (Chagatai), showcasing a remarkable breadth of knowledge. Moldo Niyaz pursued his education in a madrasa in the city of Kashgar, further enriching his intellectual background.

In his poetry, Moldo Niyaz delved into profound philosophical reflections on various aspects of life, death, the Universe, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. His works also served as a historical record, providing insights into events that unfolded in Kyrgyzstan during the second half of the 19th century.

The unveiling of the monument stands as a testament to Moldo Niyaz’s enduring influence on Kyrgyz literature and cultural heritage. The celebration not only honors his contributions but also underscores the importance of preserving and promoting the rich literary traditions of Kyrgyzstan. Moldo Niyaz’s legacy continues to inspire generations, and the monument serves as a tangible reminder of his enduring impact on the nation’s intellectual and artistic landscape.

Moldo Niyaz’s journey came to an end in 1896 in his native village, leaving behind a lasting legacy that resonates through his written works and the admiration of those who recognize the significance of his contributions to Kyrgyz culture and intellectual thought.
