BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan marked the dawn of the new year with a symbolic change as the country’s new flag was hoisted at Ala-Too Square on January 1, 2024. This significant event follows an order signed by President Sadyr Japarov on December 22, initiating the transformation of the national flag’s design.

The signed decree introduces alterations to the emblematic rays of the sun on the flag, shifting from a wavy pattern to a straight configuration. The change in the flag’s design reflects a nuanced evolution in the symbolism that represents the nation, ushering in a new era for Kyrgyzstan.

Under the newly signed law, all official documents featuring the previous version of the state flag will remain valid until their expiry. This ensures a seamless transition, emphasizing continuity in administrative processes. Car plates and vehicle registration certificates adorned with the previous flag’s image will also remain valid until the authorized body decides on their replacement.

The unveiling of the new flag at Ala-Too Square serves as a visual testament to the nation’s commitment to embracing change while retaining the essence of its identity.
